on the section on equipment and the canon intervalometer TC-8ON3 which you state "the TC-8ON3 which, apart from the fact you can’t set the number of exposures to more than 99"

i finally found a way to get unlimited exposures from it in a small post i found

set it 00 and it takes all you want!

Congratulations on the Nikon short list. You have done a fantastic job at conveying the emotional aspects in your film. Great use of time lapse, well done.

Thanks Tim, I used your guidelines for a time lapse in a short film I just completed. It made the finals of a Nikon competition. The time lapse appears at 1 min, 03 seconds in and another at 1 min, 40 seconds in. The whole short is 2 min, 20 seconds. The second time lapse was painstaking because 2 batteries in my pclix failed along with 4 backups. I had to do the whole time lapse by hand and guesswork.

I have a Nikon D5000 and want to shoot the skyline of New York over a 24 hour period. Right now I am thinking of 30 or 60 second intervals. If everything is pre-set and unchangeable, then some shots will be either over or under exposed. Should I think about using Aperture setting so that the aperture is set but then the camera automatically adjusts the shutter and ISO? Or just let everything be automatic?

Many thanks for any wise advice.

I use Canon, so I'm not too sure about Nikon. However, the shutter on one of my 5D mark II's went a couple of weeks ago in Mongolia. It was under a year old. Mind you, it was very cold too (minus 25), which could be a factor. Like you say, the more you use something, the more likely it is to break. C'est la vie as far as I'm concerned. It's worth it if you love what you do.

Amazing stuff, I was just watching life of plants then found this.

Question. I have a Nikon d80, .. have you ever had any problems with the life span of the cameras shutter? Obviously photographing 250 stills for 10 seconds will degrade the life of the shutter.

According to http://www.olegkikin.com/shutterlife/nikon_d80.htm average shutter life of a d80 is 41,958 releases so thats 167 x 10 second sequences.

In practice have you found this an issue?

Thanks
